چکیده

Case 1 a 52-year-old female with the history of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis was hospitalized due to complete rightsided pneumothorax. Despite the invasive mechanical ventilation and thoracic drainage with continuous suction, severe respiratory failure persisted and veno-venous ECMO was initiated. On a second ECMO day, a suitable donor for transplantation became available. She was transferred to the transplantation center in Vienna by the air service using transportable ECMO device and underwent double lung transplantation. She remains stable in two years follow-up.

Bridge to lung transplantation with the extracorporeal membrane ventilator Novalung in the veno-venous mode: the initial Hannover experience.

Conventional extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and mechanical ventilation have both been identified as significant risk factors for post-lung transplant mortality when applied as a bridge to lung transplantation. We have previously described the successful use of the extracorporeal membrane ventilator Novalung as a bridge to lung transplantation in patients with severe hypercapnia and respira...

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation after living-related liver transplant.

Various types of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation methods have been used in liver transplant operations. The main indications are portopulmonary or hepatopulmonary syndromes and other cardiorespiratory failure syndromes that are refractory to conventional therapy. There is little literature available about extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, especially after liver transplant. We describe ou...

Lung transplantation for idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension on intraoperative and postoperatively prolonged extracorporeal membrane oxygenation provides optimally controlled reperfusion and excellent outcome

OBJECTIVES Lung transplantation for idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension has the highest reported postoperative mortality of all indications. Reasons lie in the complexity of treatment of these patients and the frequent occurrence of postoperative left ventricular failure. Transplantation on intraoperative extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support instead of cardiopulmonary bypass and e...

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation as a bridge to lung transplantation and recovery.

OBJECTIVE Respiratory failure develops in many patients on lung transplant waiting lists before a suitable donor organ becomes available. Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation may be used to bridge such patients to recovery or lung transplantation. METHODS This is a review of a single-institution's experience with placing patients on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation with the intention of bri...
